you’re doing a great job

I’m not sure where you are or how your week has gone, but you need to know that you – yes, you – are doing a great job.

My week started with a minor surgical procedure that has significantly slowed me down from my normal quip and clip. Even several days post-op, daily chores like putting away dishes are difficult. I beat myself up for being borderline-house-ridden but nor churning out a single recipe in writing this week.

Much needed perspective:

Being a domestic goddess isn’t just about putting beautiful, tasty meals on the table every night – it’s about making your home a place where everyone feels loved and welcome. In this house, that translates to little things like having the kids cups cabinet. Instead of storing pots, pans, and other more DGMD-functional items in this cabinet, we have an entire slider dedicated to plastic cups and lids. Why, pray tell? Because the 6-year old can make a drink here without asking for my help. He can make one for his sister too. The arsenal of sippy cups can both dry and reside here instead of taking up valuable counter space. The lids have a bin to (semi) control them. We know exactly where they are when packing daycare backpacks at night for the next morning.

It’s simple. It’s easy. And I know the days of needing this spot for the littles are short.

Do what you need to do in order to be gentle on yourself and others this week. Pause to cherish little victories.

You’re doing a great job.

Cheers!
